House lawmakers opted to study the financial and policy implications of Election Day voter registration rather than approve the provision in a vote that split Democrats and sets up showdown with the state Senate, where members have already green-lit same-day registration.
“Ultimately, this is just a procedural move that will just delay, delay, delay same-day registration or Election Day registration,” state Rep. Tami Gouveia, an Acton Democrat and candidate for lieutenant governor.
